Eleven-year-old violinist Mindy Chen plays a romance by Sarasate, and a talented teen quintet takes on Dvorak. Also, a young cellist chooses Elgar, and a 14-year-old pianist plays Prokofiev.

In memoriam Willem Bouman

Op 24 december j.l. is onze zeer gewaardeerde collega en oud-lid van de NGV Willem Bouman overleden.
Willem Bouman werd in Leeuwarden geboren als zoon van amateur-vioolbouwer Feiko Jacob bij wie hij de beginselen van de vioolbouw en reparatie, restauratie van strijkinstrumenten en strijkstokken leerde. Vanaf 1948 volgde hij de opleiding vioolbouw aan de vioolbouwschool te Mittenwald, waar hij in 1951 de opleiding met de meestertitel afsloot. Hij vestigde zijn atelier in Den Haag aan de Hofsingel, in 1958 werd het atelier en woonhuis verplaatst naar de Herenstraat en daar is het gebleven tot op heden. Bouman hield zich zowel met de restauratie als ook met nieuwbouw, expertise en handel in strijkinstrumenten bezig. In zijn atelier heeft hij altijd meerdere medewerkers gehad,zowel voor de reparatie als voor de nieuwbouw. Als stokkenmaker hield hij zich bezig met het vervaardigen van barokstokken. Later heeft Willem Bouman zich ook beziggehouden met wetenschappelijk onderzoek, o.a.vastleggen van klankgrafieken etc. Op zijn 65ste verjaardag werd hij in Den Haag gehuldigd met een tentoonstelling in het Haags Gemeentemuseum. Ter gelegenheid hiervan werd een biografie uitgegeven. |
